Welcome to Jazzmatazz Dance Company!
The vision of Jazzmatazz Dance is to promote a love for social dancing, good music, and the joys that each brings to you and your partner. We are based in Prince George, British Columbia. On this site you will find information about our lessons and monthly social events, music lists for practice, dance-related links, and much more!
Who are we? Alison and Yvon are professional educators and are passionate about music, dancing, and teaching:
- Alison has a Masters Degree in Fine Arts Education and teaches dance and languages at the high school level. She has been sharing her love of social dancing with adults at the Y since 2000.
- Yvon teaches at the primary level and has extensive training and knowledge in physical education. Over the years he has trained many adults in running technique (including marathons). He has been teaching with Alison at the Y since 2014.
Together we are Jazzmatazz Dance. We love to dance... dancing together, dancing with friends and students, learning new skills, and sharing our skills with others. We approach each class with a learning goal, but also with fun and humour. We believe in proper lead and follow technique -- not just pattern memorization -- so you can dance with anyone and look and feel good doing it.
Come join us! We hope to see you on the dance floor!
A new session of lessons is starting this April with two beginner classes (West Coast Swing and Walz) and (by request) an intermediate level class (Two Step). Please see the Lessons page for more details or join the Jazzmatazz Facebook page to receive the most up-to-date information. There will be one more 2016 session in May with Beginner East Coast Swing and...? Requests?
Jazzmatazz Dance Co. has partnered with the YMCA of Northern B.C. to offer monthly dance socials. These events run on the last Saturday of the month (excepting July, August and December) from 7-10pm, with a mini-lesson from 7:00-7:30pm. They are open to all members of the community, but are specifically aimed at current/former/prospective Y students and their friends or family. The socials are held at the former Highland Elementary School on McDermid Drive (see Google map below). With a wood floor, live DJ, and a friendly community of dance students and teachers, these events are the perfect practice venue for all dancers -- beginners and experienced alike. Admission is by cash donation to the Y Healthy Kids program.
Our next event is Saturday, April 30, 7-10pm (mini-lesson: Rumba).
- May 28, 7-10pm
- June 25, 7-10pm
